An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), most commonly referred to as a ‘drone’, is an ideal and relatively inexpensive aircraft for commercial operators within the field of photography and film, line inspection and geological survey.
Beta Aviation offers comprehensive liability and hull insurance solutions for commercial and scientific drone operators, with coverage that can be extended to include world wide operations.
You can read the Insurance Product Information Document HERE.
The compulsory liability insurance will be in accordance with minimum limits in Regulation (EC) No 785/2004 for third party liability but operators may choose a higher limit if needed. The liability premium is determined on the basis of the drone’s weight, its maximum speed (converted to joule) and the geographical area of operation.
For operators with a fleet of two or more drones, we offer the option of limiting the liability coverage and premium to the number of drones in use simultaneously. If an operator for example has five drones – but only one of them is in use at any given time – the operator is only charged liability premium for one drone (the one with the highest joule). If two drones are (potentially) in use at any given time, the operator is charged premium for two etc.
The hull insurance provides full flight risk coverage, meaning that the drone is covered during flight as well as when it is not in use. The premium is determined on the basis of the value of the drone, its age and the geographical area of operation.
